Organization

How we're structured

A volunteer board governs the nonprofit, while competition teams design and deliver each season.

Board of Directors

A five-member board, including the CEO and the current competition directors, provides governance and strategic direction.

Lucas Morris

Lucas Morris

Director

Lucas helps to organize the volunteer team, develop competition systems, coordinate with the various teams, and has a deep experience with cat herding. By day, he’s also a Senior Manager at Security Risk Advisors and moonlights as an Adjunct Professor at RIT’s Global Cybersecurity Institute.

Meredith Kasper

Meredith Kasper

Director

You'll find Meredith Kasper lurking around many areas of the competition helping out with everything from registration to competition integrity. When she isn't busy helping organize CPTC, she can be found at Hurricane Labs as their SOC Technical Account Manager, Consultant, and Office Cat.

Raul Martinez

Raul Martinez

Director

Raul brings over a decade of hands-on cybersecurity experience to the CPTC board, spanning helpdesk roots, network engineering, penetration testing, and adversary emulation at firms including Crowe and Global Atlantic. A long-standing CPTC volunteer, he's passionate about the mission that first drew him to the competition: giving students a real-world proving ground before they enter the workforce. On the board, he focuses on the long-term health of the organization, ensuring CPTC remains a technically rigorous and student-centered experience as it continues to grow globally.

Stuart Morris

Director

Stuart is a former competitor turned volunteer who has been fortunate to learn from and contribute alongside members of many teams. These days Stuart spends most of his time focusing on the future of CPTC and operational strategy as a member of the Transition team. Stuart sees security as a field that demands constant improvement, and is committed to empowering the next generation of defenders in an effort to help secure our digital future.

Bob Kalka

Bob Kalka

Bob leads IBM's security automation portfolio globally and has spent decades shaping the company's strategy across its security-related investments, with leadership roles spanning product management, sales, pre-sales, product development, and business development. An international speaker on the relationship between business and cybersecurity, risk management, hybrid cloud, and AI, and brings that industry and governance perspective to the CPTC board. Outside of work, Bob is an active Austin musician who fronts groups spanning jazz, rock, funk, and blues.

Competition Directors

Each team is led by a director and owns part of the season, from building the environment to judging the reports.

Gideon Gray

Gideon Gray

Co-Director, Applications

The development pipeline has never made less sense then when Gideon joined and somehow made his way to co-director of Apps. Whether its dropping tables or slamming your head through a table (in frustration), he always enjoys adding twists to both the infrastructure team, and competitors alike.

Marshall Hallenbeck

Marshall Hallenbeck

Co-Director, Applications

Creating a new company annually, including the applications, is no easy task. Working as a team with Infrastructure, our Applications leads develop new systems and apps each year. He is also a Senior Penetration Tester at a security consulting firm and OffSec tool developer.

Austin Kanarr

Austin Kanarr

Director, Infrastructure

Austin develops the networking, servers, and systems within the competition environment. Working with the applications team, they build the targets students will attack during the penetration test. Leveraging his background in both Red Teaming and Blue Teaming he creates as many fires as possible from real world experiences.

Joe Needleman

Joe Needleman

Director, Special Teams

A security engineer working at the intersection of DevSecOps and AI. He helps organize many competitions across the security community including WRCCDC, CIRCUS, and currently Special Projects for CPTC, in addition to serving as adjunct faculty teaching cybersecurity. When not working on computers, he is actively hiking and exploring nature.

Greg Moore

Greg Moore

Director, Scoring

Greg has been volunteering with CPTC since CPTC 8. He began as a report scorer, then joined the World team, and now focuses as a Competition Director on scoring. Greg's favorite aspect of CPTC is bringing the real-world scenarios of injects and educational opportunities to life during competitions. He also enjoys finding ways to incorporate evaluation of business and soft skills into the competition. He is eager to help competitors make the transition from being students to professionals, and strives to make the competition as realistic from a professional standpoint as possible.

Ian Cook

Ian Cook

Director, World

A former two time CPTC Competitor, Ian helps set the stage for each season by developing the business, characters and stories that weave in the human element to CPTC. Between beating croissant puns to death and concocting crazy injects, he is eager to help give students a leg up with their industry soft skills, in a similar way that CPTC helped him.

Tim Ip

Tim Ip

Director, Monitoring

Tim leads the monitoring team to build and operate enterprise-class monitoring infrastructure that keeps CPTC running smoothly - tracking competition integrity and ensuring everything from network traffic to team progress is observable in real-time. If something breaks during the competition, he saw it before it happened. If you’re wondering whether anyone noticed that thing you just did, the answer is yes - and it’s already in a dashboard with your team no. on it.
